The Washington Nationals 72-57, winners of their last four games look to sweep the Chicago Cubs 69-60 today at Wrigley Field. The Nats have won six of seven and 11 of 13, truly one of the hottest team in baseball right now. The Cubs have lost two in a row and will try to avoid its second losing streak this month of three games or more.
Chicago will rely on veteran lefty Cole Hamels, he's 7-4 on the year with a 3.73 ERA. Through 115.2 IP he has 112 strikeouts, he's given up 13 home runs and walked 41 baters so far this season. He's been good for the Cubs after coming back from the disabled list.
Washington will send Stephen Strasburg to the mound today, he's 15-5 on the year with a 3.65 ERA. Through 165.0 IP he has 191 strikeouts, he's given up 19 home runs and walked 42 batters this season. A true bulldog on the hill, he's having one of his best seasons so far since being in the bigs. Wouldn't surprise me to see him get Cy Young votes later this year.
The Cubs are 1.5 games behind St. Louis in the NL Central, and currently hold the second wild card spot by 1.5 games. The Nats are 6 back of the Braves in the NL East, and currently hold the top wild card spot by 3 games over the Cubs and 4.5 over Philly. This is what it's all about folks, season is winding down.
Enjoy the game everyone.
